Lunda Asmani

Lunda Asmani serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Norwalk Public Schools in Connecticut, where he oversees the financial strategy and operations of the district’s $400 million combined operating, grant, and capital budget. His responsibilities include long-range financial planning, budgeting, fund accounting, internal auditing, and supporting the district’s independent external audit process. With nearly two decades of experience in local government finance, Lunda has held several key leadership roles, including Chief Financial Officer for the Town of New Canaan, CT; Director of Management & Budgets for the City of Norwalk, CT; and Assistant City Manager for Budget & Finance in the City of Newton, Kansas. From 2003 to 2016, he also served as an adjunct instructor of economics at Butler College in Kansas. His contributions to the field have been recognized with a "Forty Under Forty" honor and a CFO Award from the Wichita Business Journal. Lunda has been actively involved with the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), currently serving as its President. Prior to joining the GFOA Board, he served two terms on the Treasury and Investment Management Standing Committee, one term on the Debt Standing Committee, and currently serves as Ex-Officio on the Budget Standing Committee. He is a past President of the GFOA Black Caucus, a past President of the Kansas Government Finance Officers Association, and currently serves as President of the Connecticut Government Finance Officers Association. He holds a Master of Public Administration from Wichita State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Planning and Economics from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He also holds graduate certificates in Public Finance and Economic Development from Wichita State University, and has completed advanced leadership and finance training through the GFOA Advanced Government Finance Institute at the University of Wisconsin and the ICMA Senior Executive Institute and Leadership ICMA at the University of Virginia. He is a Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) through GFOA.
