Amir Mehdizadeh

Dr Amir Mehdizadeh is a recognised leader in sustainable infrastructure, with over 18 years of experience spanning academia, industry, and entrepreneurship in geotechnical and pavement engineering. He is the Managing Director and co-founder of Porous Lane, an award-winning Australian company transforming recycled tyres into high-performance permeable pavement solutions. Amir holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from Swinburne University and is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. His work focuses on solving pressing urban challenges—such as stormwater management, microplastic pollution, and urban heat island mitigation—through innovative, circular economy infrastructure. Under his leadership, Porous Lane has delivered projects for over 50 councils and organisations across Australia and New Zealand, offering low-maintenance, crack-resistant pavements with industry-leading permeability. The company’s innovation and impact have earned widespread recognition, including: - 2023 Premier’s Sustainability Award (Victoria) - 2024 IPWEA Victoria Excellence Award - 2025 Water New Zealand Stormwater Innovation Award - 2025 Australian Financial Review Sustainability Leaders List He is currently focused on scaling Porous Lane’s operations nationally and launching new products such as permeable kerb & channel and modular precast systems to serve the growing demand for climate-adapted infrastructure.
