In today's world of digital twins, multi disciplinary data management and Building Information Modelling (BIM), all stakeholders to a project need equity of access to data, regardless of the industry.  There are unfortunately as many different formats for storing data as there are design applications, making it challenging for local government authorities to provide a concise specification for data formats that doesn't preclude access based on the design application or system used.

In this session we will discuss how the Industry Foundation Class (IFC) provides a standardised way of sharing project data, and is evolving beyond it's origial scope of sharing data betwen architects to providing collaboration between architecture, engineering and construction.

Whilst IFC has been a standard data format for sharing architectural data for over 20 years, we will provide insights into how the latest developments of IFC (IFC 4.3) will see this format gaining popularity as the base file format for sharing project data across multiple design industries and will feature in future multi disciplinary project specifications.

The intention is to inform design teams and project managers who are involved in building and civil engineering works of the expanced capabilities of the IFC4x3 standard to support Civil and Survey data.
