This joint presentation brings together pavement engineers and contract managers with international experience across Private Finance Initiatives (PFIs) and performance-based maintenance contracts, including the landmark Portsmouth PFI in the UK and the Sydney Road Asset Performance (SRAP) contracts in Australia, including unsealed road network trial in South Australia.

With over two decades of experience at the intersection of engineering, contract delivery, and system integration—and more than a decade working with emerging Road AI technologies—the presenters offer practitioner insights from trialling a range of AI-driven tools and condition assessment methodologies across varied contractual frameworks.

Rather than promoting a specific solution, the session evaluates how different technologies perform in delivering accurate, reliable data for asset condition monitoring and contract compliance. It offers a comparative look at tool effectiveness—from technical precision and data usability to how outputs align with contract KPIs, system integration needs, and on-ground realities.

Attendees will gain a practical, unfiltered view into how engineering judgement, digital innovation, and contract obligations intersect when selecting tools for high-stakes asset management in long-term infrastructure contracts.
