Trust between the principal and the contractor is an essential ingredient for contracting success. Without trust, the parties can struggle to work together, making it difficult to achieve the goals of the contract. This presentation explores the role of procurement in establishing and developing trust between the parties. We explore recent research undertaken into relational contracting and how we can use these findings to build trust for the benefit of our own projects. We look at common actions and inactions from both the principal and the tenderer that can erode trust and what we can do to build trust to ensure contracting success.
