The City of Salisbury is a major council in the outer northern suburbs of Adelaide, comprising an area of some 160 square km and a diverse population in the order of 150,000. We have over $2billion worth of assets, and a Capital Program of about $80million
The recently released Greater Adelaide Regional Plan, mapping out Adelaide’s growth over the next 30 years, shows that the northern metropolitan area (including Salisbury) is expected to experience significant growth over the next 30 years, with a residential increase of 40,000 during the next 10 years.
Importantly, much of Adelaide’s industrial growth is expected in Salisbury with a large precinct of land allocated for major industrial development that is largely unserviced with trunk infrastructure.
Council has embarked on a revitalisation on the Salisbury City Centre including major investments by Council on its own and in partnership with the private sector.
It is essential for both major development opportunities that Council work closely with our State Government colleagues and private developers to ensure our future neighbourhoods and employment lands are planned and designed in an integrated way that meets the needs of the industry base, our community’s expectations and are financially sustainable.
Councils cannot afford to be passive in the planning and design of these developments. We must be active participants, willing to invest to deliver assets designed to a suitable standard, and available when needed. We must be at the table contributing, using our relationships and funding to influence outcomes with both State Government and private developers.
This presentation will explain our journey of how we are tackling these challenges and realise the opportunities. The presentation explains how we have been working alongside and influencing State Government and private developers to optimise the outcome for our future city and punch above our weight.
